M’AKOMA is a bracelet and an app for the people you love, so it touches personal things: who they are, and sometimes your voice. This page says exactly what I collect, why, who else handles it, how long it stays, and how you get it deleted. I do not sell your data and I do not use it for advertising. The app has no ads and no tracking.

Who is responsible

M’AKOMA is a limited liability company registered in the United States, run by me, Melvin Osei Opoku. Questions or requests go to oseimelvin@gmail.com, and I read every one.

The M’AKOMA app

There is no password. The first time you open the app, it makes an account for you on M’AKOMA’s server. That account holds:

Finding people you know

Only if you allow it, the app looks at the phone numbers and email addresses in your Contacts, turns each one into the same kind of one-way code, and sends those codes to the server to see who already uses M’AKOMA. Names, photos and every other detail stay on your phone. The codes are compared and then dropped; they are not stored. Contacts access is never required: you can share your code instead.

Messages

Pulses (a tap that lights someone’s bead), Echoes (a voice note to one person) and group chats (text, voice Ripples, photos, videos, reactions and replies) all travel through M’AKOMA’s server. It keeps them only as long as it needs to:

Notifications

So you know about a Pulse or an Echo when the app is closed, the server keeps your phone’s push token, and Apple delivers the notification through the Apple Push Notification service.

M’AKOMA AI

Nothing goes to an AI unless you ask it something. If you use M’AKOMA AI (“Hey Makoma”), Apple’s speech recognition turns your question into text. That text, the name you use in the app and your local time are sent through M’AKOMA’s server to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude model, to get your answer. M’AKOMA’s server does not keep your questions or the answers.

What stays on your phone

No ads, no tracking

The app shows no ads, does not track you across other apps or websites, and has no analytics tools inside it. I do not sell your data or share it for advertising.

Reports and blocks

If you report a message, a person or a group, I receive the report and what it is about, so I can review it. If you block someone, the server remembers it so they can no longer reach you. Reports are kept only as long as I need them to deal with the problem and keep people safe.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Profile → Account → Delete account. That deletes:

It also clears the app’s data on that phone. It cannot reach into other people’s phones, so anything they have already received stays with them. If you no longer have the phone, email me with the name you used and I will help.

When you preorder

When you join the waitlist

Your email address (and anything else you choose to type into the form) goes to Buttondown, the service that sends M’AKOMA emails. If you trace your own design onto a bead, the file is stored privately and only linked to your signup. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

The bracelet designer

The names you type when you design a bracelet on this website stay in your browser. They are not sent to me.

Website analytics

This website uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights: counts of page views and load times, without cookies. On the preorder page it also counts which step people reach, never what they typed. This is the website only; the app has no analytics.

Who else handles your data

Only the services that run M’AKOMA, each for its own job:

Your data is stored and processed in the United States. If you use M’AKOMA from somewhere else, it travels there.

How long it is kept

App data follows the table above. Order records are kept as long as they are needed to fulfil, refund or support your order and to meet tax and accounting rules. Waitlist details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them.

Children

M’AKOMA is not directed to children under 13. You must be 13 or older to set up and use the app on your own. A younger child may wear a bracelet only through a parent’s or guardian’s phone and account, with that adult in charge. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you think I have, email me and I will delete it.

Your choices

You can delete your app account yourself at any time, as described above. For anything else, email me to see what I hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. I will reply within 30 days. Records I have to keep by law, such as a completed sale for tax, I keep only for that purpose. Deleting your data does not cancel an order; cancelling an order works as the terms of sale describe.

Changes to this page

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. I will not start using data you already gave me in a new way without asking you first.
