Terms of use
Last updated 22 October 2026.
These are the rules for using the M’AKOMA app and the service behind it. The idea is simple: M’AKOMA is for staying close to the people you love, and it only works if everyone on it feels safe. By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Buying a bracelet is covered separately, by the terms of sale. How your data is handled is on the privacy page.
Who these terms are with
M’AKOMA is a limited liability company registered in the United States, run by me, Melvin Osei Opoku. These terms are between you and M’AKOMA. Questions, complaints or claims about the app go to oseimelvin@gmail.com.
Who can use it
You must be 13 or older to set up and use the app on your own. A child under 13 may use M’AKOMA only through a parent’s or guardian’s phone and account, with that adult in charge. If you are under 18, please read these terms with a parent or guardian. M’AKOMA is not directed to children under 13.
Your account
There is no password: your account is tied to your phone. Keep your phone locked, because whoever holds it can send as you. You are responsible for what is sent from your account. Use a name the people you know will recognise, and never pretend to be someone else.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
M’AKOMA has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. You must not use the app to send, share or post anything that:
- harasses, bullies, stalks, threatens or intimidates anyone
- is hateful, or attacks people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age
- sexualises a minor in any way, including any sexual content involving someone under 18. This is always reported to the authorities.
- is sexually explicit, or sexual content sent to someone who did not ask for it
- threatens violence, or encourages violence, self-harm or terrorism
- is illegal, or promotes something illegal
- impersonates someone, is spam or a scam, or shares someone’s private information without their permission
- breaks someone else’s rights, such as their copyright or privacy
You must also not try to break, overload, copy or get around the security of the app or the server, or use M’AKOMA to reach someone who has blocked you.
What happens if someone breaks these rules
M’AKOMA may remove any content, and suspend or permanently remove any account, that breaks these rules, without warning. Where content is illegal or someone may be in danger, I may also report it to the police or other authorities.
Reporting and blocking
If something or someone on M’AKOMA is not right, tell me straight away:
- A message: long-press it and tap Report.
- A person: open them and tap Report, or Block.
- A group: open the group and tap Report.
- Anything else: email oseimelvin@gmail.com.
I review every report within 24 hours. If it breaks these rules, the content is removed and the account that sent it is removed. Blocking someone stops them reaching you, whether or not you also report them.
Your messages
What you send is yours. You give M’AKOMA permission to store, carry and deliver it only so the app can work: to get your Echo to the person you sent it to, or to show a group’s messages to that group. That permission ends when the message is deleted, as the privacy page describes. Only send things you have the right to send.
Not an emergency or medical device
M’AKOMA is for staying close. It is not an emergency service and not a medical device. It does not contact 911 or any other emergency service. A Pulse, an Echo or an alert can arrive late or not at all: phones run flat, Bluetooth drops and networks fail. Never rely on M’AKOMA when someone’s safety is at stake. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
Your licence to use the app
M’AKOMA gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms (and, if you got it from the App Store, under Apple’s Usage Rules). M’AKOMA can withdraw that licence as described under “Ending” below.
The app, its design, the M’AKOMA name, the symbols and the logo belong to M’AKOMA. You may not copy, sell, rent, lend or change the app, or try to work out its source code, except where the law allows you to. Open-source parts of the app come with their own licences.
Updates
The app keeps improving through free updates. Features may change, and some may be removed. If something big is going to change or stop, I will try to tell you in the app first.
Ending
You can stop whenever you like: delete your account in Profile → Account → Delete account. M’AKOMA can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if it has to stop running the service. If M’AKOMA ever closes the service, I will give you as much notice as I can.
The legal part
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, M’AKOMA makes no promises about the app beyond those in these terms, and is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, or for messages that are late, lost or never delivered. As far as the law allows, M’AKOMA’s total responsibility to you for the app is limited to US$100.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law that cannot be taken away. The terms of sale for your bracelet, including its refund promises, are separate and are not changed by this page.
If you got the app from the App Store
- These terms are between you and M’AKOMA, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Support comes from M’AKOMA, on the help page and by email.
- If the app does not meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for the app, if any. Apart from that, and as far as the law allows, Apple has no warranty obligation for the app.
- M’AKOMA, not Apple, is responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection and privacy claims, and claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not in a country under a US government embargo or designated by the US government as “terrorist supporting”, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile carrier’s.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. For an important change, I will tell you in the app before it applies. Using the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
